To design and deliver three stages, bespoke screen animations and photo ops for the 4th year of their annual festival in The Garden Resort Tisno, Croatia. To celebrate Defected Records 20th anniversary in the music business, they tasked us with rewarding their 5,000 loyal and returning guests with a special and unexpected production for the 2019 show.
To bring to life the core values of Defected in harmony with the natural beauty of this unique festival site, nestled in a cove on the Adriatic coast. For the Beach Stage, we created a mirror ball fascia that glistened in the sunshine and when night fell, shimmered under moonlight as the crowd danced to the beats of Horse Meat Disco and Joey Negro. For the Olive Grove Stage, we twinned a bespoke leaf design and natural wood fascia with intense neon green LED and dichroic panels to create the perfect corner of paradise for guests to dance from day into night. The Main Stage saw many incredible moments, from Armand Van Helden's super-turbo set for Glitterbox, to Honey Dijon's for Classic and the unforgettable closing set (during a torrential storm) from our client Simon Dunmore! The design of the Main Stage celebrated Defected's dedicated support of the LGBTQ community and took inspiration from Defected's colourful promo posters. We blended the Pride flag colours with a Mondrian-esque fascia and dichroic panels to create the perfect frame for the legendary performances on stage. The finishing touch to these performances was the backdrop of bespoke animations including neon glitch art, monochrome shadow imagery and slo-mo coloured smoke plumes displayed across more than 50 LED screens. To tie the Defected story together, in between the stages we produced many photo ops for fans to enjoy including a giant Defected heart in the Pride colours, giant deckchairs and giant Defected letters.
Six high-tempo and truly magical days in the Croatian sun, where more than 40 artists played almost 100 hours of music. The 5,000 guests and our clients at Defected agreed it was the best and most special show to date; fitting for the 20th anniversary celebration of the UK's most successful House record label. Roll on 2020!
