Electric Circus

The Brief

As the year drew to a close, Facebook London wanted a marker to celebrate another year of hard work with an event for up to 3000 staff members. The We Are Family London team were to handle every aspect of the event from the concept right through to final delivery.

The Idea

We designed an 'Electric Circus' with the aim to transport guests into an incredible world of circus performance, fairground games and edible treats, all with a twist.

A sensory rich environment with a focus on striking entertainment and technical activations including lighting design, projection mapping, content design and large format LED walls. Areas for food, games, lounges, bars and main stage were designed to maximise social interaction and networking for guests. A host of entertainment was to be researched and chosen to cater to all tastes. Above all, we wanted the event to be magical, impactful and allow guests to feel like it was their party, designed exclusively for them.

The Result

Arriving at giant red velvet swags of curtains, guests walked into a black and white stripe entrance to encounter the Electric Circus. A sensory overload of performers from headless men to zebras on stilts and aerialists were waiting. Drinks were always on hand, served by an illusion of moving arms, bars and tray service. Stepping up on the photo moment, guests were able to take home visual proof of their time at a Facebook party amongst the colourful archways and doors.

The main stage was hosted by drag queen Gingzilla, our ringmaster for the evening introducing aerial, fire and LED hoop performers alongside musical acts including Facebook in-house bands, The Kalon Affair, DJs Rickie & Melvin and DJ Hilit Kolet.

The fairground was a space for guests to indulge in more traditional circus activities and; a quad roller rink, fortune telling and 'hook a duck' with prizes to win including cuddly toys sourced from local charity shops.

Delicious food and drink was on offer throughout the evening, with the main card bar serving wines, beers, spirits and mocktails - the champagne being topped up from up in the air by sophisticated aerialists. Meanwhile, guests indulged in the food offering; toasties, churros, mac & cheese, pizzas, burgers to name a few.

Behind a smoke and mirror entrance, Electric Avenue was an entirely different space lined with corrugated walls and neon lighting. Bearded Lady's Boutique offered temporary tattoos and other fancy dress delights. Electric Avenue had its very own LED games area alongside a laser tag maze, A 9m bar, a cheesecake stand and a flavoured popcorn bar.

All graphics and signage were delivered using sustainable materials and logistics were organised to reduce carbon footprint.

This was one of our favourite events to date. A fully immersive journey into the weird and wonderful world of the circus, flipped on its head- and definitely Electric.
